Amazon.com Product Description

Convenience takes on a whole new meaning with the efficient, reliable and user-friendly Energizer 84020 All-In-One 12V 18Ah Battery Jumpstarter with Air Compressor and Power Inverter. Powered by an internal 12-volt, 18Ah sealed lead-acid battery capable of delivering 350 CA, it is designed to quickly and safely deliver automotive power on three fronts: battery jump-starting power, air compression for tire inflation and untethered AC and DC current suitable for most any appliance or gadget. Covering virtually any temporary power requirement, the Energizer All-In-One provides all the power needed for any getaway.

Jumpstarting Your Car

In the event of a dead or severely drained battery the Energizer All-In-One Jumpstarter allows you to get back on the road in minutes by simply following three color-coated steps numbered on the outside of the unit. It's as easy as 1: assuring that the unit has a sufficient charge by pressing the CHECK button; 2: attaching the color-coded positively and negatively charged 24" power output jumper cables, via their heavy-duty, spark-resitant battery clamps, to the appropriate positively charged post on your car's dead battery and a ground position on your engine block; 3: turning the power switch located in the clearly marked JUMP section of the controls from OFF to JUMP, and starting the car with the dead battery. When your vehicle starts and has run at an idle for a few minutes remove the All-In-One Jumpstarter cables in the reverse order they were connected, turn off the unit and you are ready to roll.

Air Compressor

The only physical connection any car has with the road is through its tires. Because of this correct tire pressure can affect everything from improved gas mileage, to correct handling on the road and the avoidance of unnecessary exposure of tires to the possibility of puncture or blowouts due to underinflation. The air compressor built into the Energizer All-In-One Jumpstarter easily addresses these issues by funneling its portable power into the ability to fill tires whenever the need or want arises. When sufficiently charged, the unit is capable of inflating most any automobile tire within 10 minutes, and is easy and safe to use with its ON/OFF switch and built-in pressure gauge located on the front of the unit. The compressor also is thermally protected from overheating, and has a strong, fabric-covered output hose with a screw-on valve stem coupler.

DC/AC Power and Light When and Where You Need It

Along with its automotive exclusive functionality, the Energizer All-In-One Jumpstarter provides all the power and access to power that you will ever need. The unit comes standard with two 12-volt DC cigarette sockets for powering 12V accessories. Both are protected by a 30-amp manual-reset circuit breaker, located at the back ensuring that your devices are never exposed to more power than they can safely handle. In addition, users also have convenient access to three-pronged AC power by way of the built-in 200 watt, DC/AC power inverter. This component also contains a built-in cooling fan to prevent any overheating during this power conversion and an ON/OFF AC power switch to minimize the possibility of power drain when cords are left plugged in. The All-In-One Jumpstarter also contains a flex-neck work light stored in the unit's handle that allows the user to shine a little light virtually any place.

Easy to Maintain Power Levels

Because even the best jumpstarter unit is of little use unless it contains sufficient power, the Energizer Jumpstart All-In-One is designed to be easy to charge and effortless to maintain. Unlike other manufacturer's units that can be damaged by overcharging, the Energizer Jumpstart All-In-One contains a 12V, 1 amp internal two-stage charger that allows your battery's power to fluctuate within a very small range while attached to AC current for charging. At the highest level of this range through the middle, charging ceases, while when the lowest is reached charging begins again, continuing until the highest level is reached. This creates a charging cycle, yet cuts the battery off from the damaging effects of excess power. This means that the unit can safely be connected to a wall outlet indefinitely, ensuring that the unit will be ready to pop into your trunk at full power whenever you want it.

4Almost perfect...
By pearce5050
A great ergonomically designed little jump start unit.
I love the fact that it can be left plugged in perpetually
and will take care of itself. I'm not mechanically inclined
so the less I need to do the better.

The only complaint I have about it is that it doesn't come
with a cord to plug into the wall. You have to get a heavy
duty extension cord to connect it to the wall, and they
never tell you that when you are reading the product
description. For the price of this item, I think it should
come with a simple short extension cord.

5Not Dead in the Water!
By Adrockdallas
If it weren't for my All in One, I would have been dead in the water, literally, on Lake Lewisville in Texas. Needless to say, we ran the stereo & fish finder WAY longer than we should have and found ourselves stuck in a cove in the middle of nowhere. We brought the all in one, with the intention of just using it to inflate to tubes for the kids, but the Jump Start feature is what really saved us. I didn't even realize that it had a light on the handle (thank you wife for noticing) but that came in handy too trying to jumpstart a boat in the dusk while mosquitoes were starting to attack! I have since recommended it to many of my co-workers and fishing buddies.

5the simple design caught my eye..
By lucchese
I was intimidated by all the other industrial looking jump starters but this one is so easy to use: just follow the numbers printed right on the starter 1,2,3! This is the starter for people who are uncomfortable messing with car or other batteries.

postheadericon How to Start a Car With a Weak Battery

Driving a car is a passion rather than a basic requirement of our daily life. When we board a car, we would always like to be on the driver's seat, as occupying the drivers seat is a real pleasure in our life. We dream about a life where our first desire would to be an owner of a car. Car gives us comfort, luxury and status in the eyes of the on lookers.

We approach our car press button on the remote, occupy the driver's seat and drive away to our destination. We need not wait for the bus. We do not make ourselves a part of the crowd rushing to occupy a seat in local trains and metros. We feel ourselves the luckiest families having a prize possession that is a Car.

In spite of all the above we sometimes become targets of peculiar gaze of the onlookers when our car breaks down or we become a traffic-stopper and vehicles on our rear blare and honk on us. We sometimes land in a trouble because of minor faults in our car or due to our poor expertise in driving.

How to Start a Car With a Weak Battery

Let us discuss a common problem that we face with our cars and the probable ways to address it without taking help of some trained Motor Mechanic:

Car does not start due to Weak Battery:

If our car battery is older than 18 months then its capacity for recharging and in turn providing adequate power supply to the self-starter to start the car, is considerably reduced. In such cases, the automobile workshops advise us to replace the battery with new ones. Yet, during the intervening periods, we need to know the ways to start the car.

We face similar problem when we keep our car unused for prolonged periods and the battery is discharged on its own.

1. Push Start:

There are two ways to start a car with a weak battery. The first one is our age-old system of 'Push Start'. The user's guide provided by the car-manufacturers along with the vehicles do not recommend this way of starting the car. Yet, we have to resort to this way if the car stops in a remote place where there is no other way to move vehicle and reach out for a safer place.

First, make adequate arrangements for moving the car manually. Here are the ways to move the car manually for 'push start'. Place your car on a down gradient and let the car roll down for picking-up adequate speed for moving it in 2nd gear. The other way is to take help of someone to push the car from the rear for achieving a desired speed.

Now, before moving the car you need to occupy driver's seat and take the following actions in proper sequence:

Move the gear lever to '2nd gear'; press the clutch paddle full; press the accelerator a little; insert the ignition key and twist it to 'switch-on' position; Now ask someone to push the car as described in the proceeding paragraph. Wait for the car to achieve the desired speed. Then release the clutch until the engine starts. Your car engine will start running.

Push the clutch again and bring the gear lever to 'neutral gear'. Now either you run the engine in idle condition or else drive away to your destination.

2. Jump Start:

The recommended way to start a car is by 'jump start' system. For this you need to have a well-charged battery or else you may use any other battery fitted on a car. Now you need to have a pair of two-meter long thick electric cables strong enough to withstand 30amp load. There should be crocodile clips properly attached to both the ends of the cables. Patented ready-made 'Jump Start' cables are also available in the market and it is advisable to have one pair of cables in our car for crisis management.

The 'Jump Start' procedure is simple. Bring the other car near to your car; connect the red cable to the Positive Ports (marked +) of batteries of both the cars; connect the black cable to Negative Ports (marked -) of both the batteries. By doing this you have connected the well-charged battery of the other car to your car. In other words, you are now using the battery of the other car for your own car.

Now occupy the driver's seat; bring the gear lever to 'neutral gear'; push clutch paddle full; insert ignition key in its slot and start your car as usual. For keeping the engine running apply hand break; let the car be in 'neutral gear'; let the ignition key remain in its slot; open the window glass of driver's door and come out of your car leaving the engine in 'idle running'.

Remove the cables and keep them in your trunk. Shift the other car to its original place. Now you should drive away for recharging your car battery. Go for a long drive at least for 5 - 10 km possibly at lower gears and essentially without putting-on your AC.

In this way your battery will be recharged for your normal use. In some types of batteries, you need to check the acid-level in the battery. If the level has gone down you may pour some distilled water by opening the caps with the help of a coin.

In general, Battery-life is specified between 18 - 24 months if your battery has crossed its 18-month life, then you have to be vigilant about your battery, as it would not recharge well and supply inadequate power output required by the self-starter to start your car-engine. Eventually, you should change the battery at right time. There are good exchange-offers in the market, so that you may exchange your old battery with a new one at a lower rate even before it is completely drained-out.

postheadericon The Non-Mechanic's Guide to Jump-Starting a Car Battery

Car batteries can lose their ability to crank an engine for several reasons. When they do, a quick jump-start will help recharge them. The key is to follow a methodical process in order to ensure your personal safety while avoiding electrical problems.

You have probably heard that an automotive battery can potentially explode. This is true, which is the reason you should wear protective goggles while changing, cleaning, or jump-starting one. The danger is due to hydrogen gas contained within the unit. It can be ignited by an errant spark. That said, the danger is slight; exploding batteries are extremely rare.

In this article, you'll discover the step-by-step procedure for properly jump-starting your car's battery.

The Non-Mechanic's Guide to Jump-Starting a Car Battery

Preparatory Steps

A jump-start requires two vehicles, your own and the jumper - or booster - vehicle. Park the booster vehicle with its battery as close as possible to your own without the cars making contact. Then, turn the ignition off (as well as the radio and other devices) and set the parking brake on both automobiles.

Take a look at your jumper cables. One will be attached to a red clamp and the other will be attached to a black clamp. Ideally, the cables should be heavy-duty and the metal clamps should be completely clean of corrosion.

Next, take a look at the posts on both batteries. One will be positive and the other will be negative. The positive post should have a plus ("+") sign and the negative one should be marked with a minus ("-") sign.

Making The Connections

First, connect one of the red clamps to the positive post on your dead battery. Make sure the connection is secure. Then, connect the other red clamp of the jumper cable to the positive post on the booster car's battery.

Connect one of your jumper cable's two black clamps to the negative post on the booster car. Then, connect the last remaining free clamp to the hull of your vehicle or to a metal ground somewhere on the engine.

Sending The Charge

Start the jumper vehicle and let it idle for two or three minutes. Then, start your own automobile and let it idle. If your engine refuses to turn over, turn it off. There are likely other problems that need to be resolved. If you're persistent and keep trying to turn your engine over, you might cause damage to your starter.

Assuming you're able to start your vehicle, disconnect the clamps of your jumper cables in the same order that you connected them. Then, either connect the battery to a charger or drive your car for approximately twenty minutes before turning the engine off.

Batteries occasionally lose their charge and need to be jump-started. It's a simple procedure, but it must be performed according to the guidelines above in order to ensure your safety and that of your vehicle.

postheadericon Motorcycle Won't Start? Here's One Thing You Don't Want To Do!

It's bound to happen sooner or later. You're ready to ride, but your motorcycle won't start. Before you call for help, consider performing a few simple steps on your own. Quite frequently, the cause and the remedy are both very simple.

First, try starting your motorcycle again, but this time pay careful attention to your starting procedure. Are you forgetting that the sidestand has to be up or that the motorcycle must be in neutral to start? Modern motorcycles are equipped with safety lockouts to prevent starting your bike in gear and riding away with the sidestand down. Starting routines become second nature and sometimes even these simple steps are overlooked.

Once you've checked the safety lockouts, determine if you are getting power to your starter. Turn your motorcycle on again and press the starter button. Does the starter turn? If yes, does it turn at its normal speed? A slow cranking starter means that the starter is getting power, just not enough to start your motorcycle. If all you get is a clicking noise, there isn't enough power to activate the starter solenoid. Insure that your battery is fully charged and the cables are clean and tight. No matter how tempted, never jump start a motorcycle with a car! The excessive current can be devastating to a motorcycles's sensitive electronics. For more information please see my article on motorcycle starting systems.

Motorcycle Won't Start? Here's One Thing You Don't Want To Do!

The next check should be fuel supply. Is there gas in the tank? I can't count how many times I've "fixed" a motorcycle by filling the tank. Don't just trust the gauge; check the level visually. For those of you with fuel petcocks make sure they are on. If your fuel petcocks are on reserve don't assume that all of the fuel in the tank is usable. The bottom of the tank is where sediment and water collects. This often doesn't cause a problem until the tank is almost empty.

If your starter turns normally and you have a full tank of gas your motorcycle should start, right? Not necessarily - so if your bike still doesn't start, it might be time to call for a tow. Your motorcycle needs the fuel to enter the cylinders and be ignited by a spark at a precise instance for proper combustion. Components that might still be at fault are clogged carburetors or fuel injectors, an inoperable fuel pump, or ignition system. See "Advanced Diagnostics" to find out more.
